Logistics encompasses all tasks for planning, controlling, providing and optimizing processes along the value chain. Procurement logistics comprises the complete view of all processes of the goods purchasing process up to the transport of goods to production or goods receipt. It acts as a link between the sales logistics of a supplier and the production logistics of a company.

The task of procurement logistics is to be able to provide a guarantee for the material supply in goods procurement with regard to the following aspects:

  • Correct quantity
  • Appropriate date
  • Good quality

The goal is the procurement of optimal, low-priced goods. Through cheap purchases, the goods can be sold at a low price and still make a profit. The procurement logistics should contribute to an optimization between the goods purchase of the manufacturer and the delivery of these goods to the end customer.
